Caustic soda also known as sodium hydroxide, is a corrosive, colourless alkali which is an essential ingredient in many industries for Ph adjustment, neutralization and cleaning. In addition to its industrial use, Sodium Hydroxide is naturally involved in some biochemical processes, though in very small amounts. It plays a critical role in neutralising acids and in saponification, which is essential for soap production. Common Applications: Soaps, Papers and Dyes. Uses and applications

Caustic soda liquid 32% (sodium hydroxide solution, lye) is a ready-to-dose strong alkali — no dissolving, no heat of solution to manage, just accurate dosing straight from the container.

  • Drain, sewer and grease-trap cleaning
  • CIP (clean-in-place) systems in dairies, breweries and food plants
  • Soap and biodiesel manufacture
  • pH correction and effluent neutralisation

Strengths and pack sizes

Supplied at 32% w/w in 25L polys, with a 205L drum and 1,000L IBC for volume users, plus a stronger 47% liquid and caustic soda pearl in 25kg bags where solid form suits better.

Handling and safety

Highly corrosive — causes severe burns. Wear chemical-resistant gloves, goggles and protective clothing, and always add caustic to cold water when diluting, never water to caustic. Store away from acids and aluminium. Full SDS supplied.

Frequently asked questions

Is liquid caustic soda better than pearl?

Liquid is safer and quicker to dose — no dissolving stage, which is where most handling accidents happen. Pearl is more economical to ship and store if you have safe make-up facilities.

Will 32% caustic soda clear a blocked drain?

Yes — it saponifies fats and dissolves organic blockages. Dose carefully following the label, allow contact time, then flush thoroughly with water. Never use in aluminium pipework.

Does caustic soda liquid freeze?

32% solution starts to crystallise around 0°C, so store frost-free in winter. If it does crystallise, gentle ambient warming restores it — never apply direct heat.
