Acetone 25L Acetone 25L is a volatile, colourless and flammable organic solvent. It takes the form of a low boiling, easy pour liquid with a sweet odour. With water, alcohols, many hydrocarbons and other organic liquids, it is miscible. It occurs naturally in plants, trees, forest fires and as a breakdown product of animal fat metabolism. Within the human body, it is also found in small quantities in blood and urine, this is normally a higher quantity in those with diabetes. Acetone can also be manufactured, this is done using the basic raw materials of benzene and propylene. First those products are used to produce cumene, this is then oxidised to become cumene hydroperoxide, when cumene hydroperoxide is split, it forms phenol and acetone. In the plastic industry, acetone is an intermediate feedstock for acrylic plastics, meaning it can be used for signs, lighting, glazing, displays and lighting fixtures. Acetone is also used in the production of BPA, this is, in turn, used to manufacture polycarbonate and epoxy resins. It is also used in the manufacture of artificial fibres and as an intermediate in pharmaceuticals. As a solvent, acetone has both a high rate of evaporation and high solvency, making it one of the most widely used solvents in the world. It is a vital ingredient in many adhesives, paints, cleaning fluids and nail polish remover. Please click here to view our delivery information and costs.
